Central Arizona College and CELA Certification
Training
Survey for CELA members
The beginning of a new era is in sight!
Updated: February 25, 2008
Your CELA education subcommittee met with representatives from Central Arizona College on February 21 to discuss the development of a code enforcement office education program. This program will be offered in three levels. Level one is complete and ready to go. It will include:
- Ethics
- Principles and Practices of Code Enforcement
- Officer Safety
- Report Writing
- Communications
- Zoning
- Legal Aspects
The above courses represent 45 classroom hours. At the completion and
successful passing of those 45 hours, the participant will earn
3 college credits (1
for each 15 hours of study) and will receive CELA certification. We are currently working on the letter of understanding with Central Arizona College, and hope to hold our first class in the Spring of this year. The curriculum and power point presentations have been developed for all the classes and they are currently being reviewed by the college.
The exact cost of taking the Level 1 course has not been finalized, but it will be in the ballpark of $225 for the entire course. You will be able to take the classes one at a time or complete them all in a one-week sesssion.
Work on Level 2 and Level 3 classes is underway.
There will be different avenues of participation in the course work available. Some courses may be on Central Arizona College campuses; others may be held off-campus for those members in northern and southern Arizona. We will be developing iTV classes as well.
There are many options to explore.
