The City of Glendale, AZ (population 250,000), the commercial and educational center of the northwest Phoenix metropolitan area, is seeking a customer service oriented professional to serve as its new Code Compliance Director. Reporting to a Deputy City Manager, the Code Compliance Director oversees a Department of 21.5 FTE’s with an operating budget of $1.68 million. The Code Compliance Department is responsible for ensuring compliance with city codes and ordinances representing community standards as established by the Glendale City Council. These community standards have been established to promote health and safety, protect the community from blight and deterioration, and enhance the livability of Glendale. Candidates should be innovative managers who blend the best aspects of leadership, technical proficiency, and a commitment to creative problem solving. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong customer service orientation.
Embracing the city’s philosophy of providing customer service in a regulatory environment. A Bachelor’s degree in Business or Public Administration or a related field and five years experience in the management of code or zoning related interpretation or application programs, including three years of supervisory experience required; Master’s degree and experience working in code compliance preferred.
